My little strawberry...

Since it's beginning to be somewhat Spring-like here (at least in Florida) I am looking towards bright, fun colors for inspiration. So I had some delicious strawberries the other day and thought I am going to make something with strawberries. So I whipped up these little goodies to distribute among friends:

I drew out a pattern and made the strawberry and stem with felt. I then embroidered the seeds in place. I then cut a small piece of paper to cover the back and glued it on. Once dry, I attached a piece of magnet tape (which I found at Target) on the back. And Voila! You have a cute strawberry magnet.

Hair Help...

It's getting around to that time when I NEED to color and cut my hair. I always agonize over how to get it done and I always end up loving it either way. I love my hair dresser, she just knows how to deal with my hair which is a huge deal. I know many women struggle with finding the right person to trust with their best accessory. With Spring coming soon I want to go for a different, fresh look. My hair is already pretty short so I am focusing more on the color.

Anywho, I really like Rachel Bilson's new color:

I also am digging the deep, chocolate brown of Zooey Deschanel:

I have always loved the rich, auburn locks of Jenny Lewis:

My hair is currently a medium brown with auburn highlights but it looks so washed out. My natural color is a chocolate, medium brown but I have dyed it so many times over the last 10 years that I don't know what the color is anymore. Any thoughts?

Urban Outfitters

Urban Outfitters has lovely clothing as we all know but I also enjoy their cheap and cute housewares.

For example, these bowls are adorable. You can mix and match the designs (there are more on their website) and it's like 4 for $15! You can't beat that. I also really like the tiny pedestal bottoms on these and they seem nice and deep. There's nothing like trying to eat cereal out of a shallow bowl, talk about a mess. I am always on the lookout for deep bowls! I guess it's a pet peeve of mine.

I also adore these pillows. The top two are Julia Rothman and the bottom two are a line called Life in the 21st Century (there are more patterns in both on the site). I love how there are little bunnies hiding the first one plus they both look so natural and I love the soothing pastel colors. The bottom two are more edgy and hip. I think the Amour one would look fabulous on my red couch.

Friday Flickr Favorites

One of my absolute favorite things to do each day is peruse Flickr for beautiful photos. It amazes me the way we all see things differently and it is so wonderful to have a place to come together and share that view. Life moves so quickly and those tiny or big moments that we are able to capture are truly a moment frozen in time. A picture can be so many different things to a person: inspiring, heartbreaking, joyous, exciting, breathtaking, sorrowful and the list goes on. Being able to share that with someone is truly amazing. Ok, enough of me babbling about photography, these are a few of my favorites for the week.

Mercedes Benz Fashion Week

I have always loved fashion, I actually began college as a Fashion Design major. That soon changed when I realized I had zero talent for drawing and very little desire for such a fast-paced, competitive profession. But alas, my love of all things fashion has remained. So even though I know I will never be able to afford such lovely designer clothes, I still get giddy when I receive a fashion magazine in the mail or see photos from a fashion show. This brings me to the point of my post, Mercedes Benz Fashion Week has come to an end in NYC. I have been perusing the pics and found a few favorites that I can drool over.

(Rachel Roy, Tory Burch, Shipley & Halmos, Nicole Miller)
Yellow was seen all over the runway, which if you can pull off, I think looks so fresh and happy. I especially love the Rachel Roy outfit, it's so Josephine Baker.

(DKNY, Charles Nolan, Tibi, Milly)
I also loved the whole French feel that was going on: the berets, tie-neck blouses, flippy skirts, etc. So elegant, lady-like and very wearable, which is the most important factor to me.

(Isaac Mizrahi, Jovovich Hawk, Tracy Reese, Milly)
Lastly, there were punches of pink everywhere! I love pink when it looks feminine but not overly frilly and child-like. I think these looks pull it off nicely. I love the Jovovich Hawk outfit the most, adorable coat, patterned dress and that punch of blue in the belt. Perfect!

Softies

So around Christmas time I won the book Softies by Therese Laskey from the Adorn magazine blog. I was very excited at the chance to receive the book and it didn't disappoint. It is chock full of wonderfully cute projects for all skill levels. I highly reccomend it!
Anyway, I decided that I was going to make the adorable, girly dresses project for Valentine's Day gifts for all the ladies in my life. So far I have been able to finish two and have a third almost done. I thought I would share my two finished products. Also, instead of filling the dresses with stuffing I decided to fill them with lavender potpourri so they would smell lovely.
