The last few days have been a little stressful in Mommyland. On Tuesday, when I got Syd home from school, I noticed that when I sat her down she wouldn't move and started crying. At first I thought she was just cranky or tired but then I noticed that her left upper leg and knee area was swollen and she wouldn't put any weight on it. Now this happened once before about 6 months ago when she was learning to walk and we never did figure out what happened but the doctor said it was probably an injury (we didn't know of any) or post virus swelling (she had been sick). So for it to happen again on the same leg was worrisome to say the least. (I should also mention that on her left leg she has a large hemangioma birthmark which we have seen several doctors about already.) So we called our pediatrician and he said to give it the night and then come in the next day if the swelling hadn't gone down. So we ended up taking her to the doctor yesterday and he didn't know what was going on so he made a few calls and then set up for her to have some bloodwork done (not fun at all!). He referred us to an orthopedic doctor (which we've seen before) so that's where we were this morning. She had to get x-rays (no fun again!) and he gave us the results of the blood tests. So we ended up ruling out a few things but we still have no answers so we are set up to see a pediatric surgeon at the end of the month and go from there. The good news is that her leg is better today and she is walking normal again but having no reason/cause for the swelling in the first place is frustrating! So needless to say, the last few days have been crazy and stressful around here. I guess all we can do now is wait.

ReplyDeleteOh no, how scary! I hope you get some answers and she's all better soon. Hugs to you & Sydney!
ReplyDeleteOh, Sara, I'm so sorry to hear this! It's so hard when these things happen to our little ones - seriously, why can't they just happen to us instead? I hope you find out what happened (have you ruled out an injury?) and that it's easily resolved. Thinking positive thoughts for you and Sydney.
ReplyDeleteHow scary - sending prayers and hugs that you have some answers soon! Some friends of ours dd had similar symptoms, but more frequently and it was determined that she had juvenile arthritis - while very upset at first, she's actually doing awesome on the treatments and is very active. Did they rule this out?
ReplyDeleteThanks ladies for the thoughtful comments. I am hoping we will find out something at the end of the month but for now she's doing much better.
ReplyDeleteI hope she's doing better. Hopefully you get the results this week, it must be making you go crazy if you have to wait a month for answers! Take care.
