We're off to see the Wizard....

I hope you all had a wonderful, treat filled Halloween!

I handmade Sydney's Dorothy dress. This was actually the first dress that I've ever made and I was very proud of myself. I was worried that it may start falling apart at any moment all night. (It didn't!)

All us ladies know that it's all about the shoes! I mean, really, Dorothy has the best pair of shoes ever.

This was the first Halloween that Sydney kinda understood what was going on; after about 3 houses I think she figured out that, 'if I hold out this plastic pumpkin, then strangers will put
treats in it.' She never did say 'Trick or Treat' but she did say 'bye' to everyone.

She is sorting out her goodies. I think she enjoyed pouring out her treats and putting them back in the pumpkin more than anything, as you can see in her expression here.

The only 'treat' I let her have. She worked on it for about 5 minutes then handed it to me and went about playing and reading books. I guess she doesn't have much of a sweet tooth. Makes me wonder if this kid is really mine!

I love this picture of Syd getting ready to take a bath. Her little leg and belly rolls just get me everytime!

This week in Mommyland....

Saturday we took Sydney to her first fair in a little country town about 25 minutes away. The weather was perfect and it was fairly small so it wasn't too crowded.

We did NOT ride this, these scare the crap outta me!

Sydney rode the baby train. They wouldn't let her ride alone so I had to squeeze my rear onto that tiny seat but she LOVED it. The discomfort was worth it, I mean look at that smile.

She was checking out the animals here, I think it was the horses and donkeys.

You can't beat fair food! I left with a big ole bag of cotton candy for the road.

Syd trying her first snocone. All was well until the brain freeze hit in pics 3 and 4. She spit all of that red stuff right down her shirt and then started to cry. I felt bad for her but Ed and I laughed so hard we cried.

I can't wait until next year when she can ride more rides and play some of the games. It was a perfect day for our little family!

Working Moma: Feelin' Royal

I am feeling very royal today with my gold and purple combo. This dress from Land's End Canvas is so easy and comfortable, plus it was on sale so, yipee! I actually ordered a few other items (here, here, here, here) from their fall sale but I have to return all of them except the cords (which are awesome, BTW) because they were to big. I really am loving the brand though, the quality of the clothes are great and they are always running some sort of promotion. I highly recommend them.

Little Pisces....

Halloween has always been my favorite holiday. When I was little my Mom always handmade all of my costumes and it's really important to me to make all of Sydney's too. This is her costume from last year. Obviously, she's a mermaid! I have a slight obsession with mermaids and since she is a Pisces, I thought it would be perfect for her 1st Halloween.

The top is a onesie that I cut purple shells out of felt and hand stitched them on.

For the tail, I cut a template out of a large piece of dark green felt. I then hand cut out all of the tiny scallops from various shades of blue, green and white felt. I used a heavier sparkly green felt for the bottom of the tail. I then glued all of the scallops on the template in a varying pattern. Instead of making the tail go all the way around (since she couldn't walk then), I just used a strip of Velcro to attach the tail to a pair of green shorts. (I had to use shorts since it was still in the 90's in October last year!) That way she could still move her legs around and it was easy to get on and off.

Lastly, I cut a star out of white and purple felt and glued them to a hair-clip.

I am in the process of making her costume for this year. It's from one of my favorite movies (that was a book first) and I was enamored with this character all of my childhood. I'll give you a few hints: braids, gingham, ruby red.

This week in Mommyland....

These pics of Syd are actually from last weekend but they were to cute not to post. I LOVE this strawberry dress I got at a thrift store in town; it's actually H&M but since we don't have one anywhere near us I was excited to find it. This week was filled with:

Lots of playing in the yard and chasing the dogs around. Syd has finally figured out how to 'really' throw the ball to the dogs so I think they are a little more inclined to respond to her now. She squeals with delight everytime they bring the ball back to her or when she steals it from them if they're too slow.

'Swing' time with Daddy; always a big hit around our house.

I think this child has gotten 6 molars in within the last 2 weeks and she has handled it very well. Barely any whining or discomfort. (So far as I can tell, at least!) She did eat the top off a crayon yesterday so there was orange crayon lodged in her teeth for a few hours. Crayon does not come out with a toothbrush very easily!

Lots of laughs, hugs, kisses and smiles, as always.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Photo Challenge: Me & Mama

I decided to enter this photo of Sydney and me in The Paper Mama's photo challenge this week. The theme is 'me & mama'. This picture is from when Syd was about 7 weeks old. I don't know what it is but I just love it.

Weekend & Working Moma: Black, White & Gray

Apparently I am gravitating toward black lately. Hmm....must reflect my mood as of late. Sorry I haven't posted often but work is trying to kill me! I used to LOVE my job but lately I am dreading going to work everyday and it really makes me sad. I am hoping it will all pass but I'm beginning to highly doubt it. I really don't want to give up on my job because I really believe in where I work but sometimes you have to make yourself happy. I'm kinda struggling with the whole situation in general. Anyone ever had this feeling before? What did you do?

Working Moma: Retro & Ruffles

I love this dress that I found at Kohl's a few weeks ago. It feels very retro inspired to me and it's very comfortable and transitions easy from summer to fall. I can already picture this with tights and boots as the weather gets cooler. The weather has been amazing here in FL lately, it's such a nice change to the scorching hot summer we had!

This week in Mommyland....

Well the weather here in FL is finally getting cooler and it's a lot more tolerable to be outside. After school/work the other day, we met up with my Mom to take a walk on the beach.

The sea oats are changing colors...Fall is on it's way!

Playing in the sand...I also think she picked up every shell in sight, broken or not. :)

Geez Ma, the suns in my eyes!

In her school shirt, our motto is, 'We Aim High'.

Love how you can see her kicking up the sand in this one.

Adorable, tiny toes. Notice the band-aid on her leg, she insisted on wearing one even though there was nothing wrong with her.

It was a beautiful day and we had to pry her away from the water every five minutes.
She truly is a little Pisces!

Working Moma: Mad for Plaid

Hello friends! Sorry I have been MIA lately, it just seems like this time of year is so busy and I feel like I'm being pulled in a million different directions. Between work, home life and all things 'Sydney', my days are being consumed very quickly.

I am working on a few crafty projects that I hope to talk about soon on the blog. I actually LOVE to craft but I've never put anything on the blog before so I will make that a new feature soon.

Dress/Jumper: Ross
Shirt: Old Navy
Sandals: Aerosoles
Owl Necklace: Target (Halloween section!)

I thought that this owl necklace was adorable and was surprised to find it in the Halloween section of Target.
